September 2016 - a time for Tartan Recovery Love...

Wednesday 31, August 2016 by Kuladharini

September 1st 2016.  Let recovery month begin! We get better all year round, so recovery month gives us an opportunity to spread the recovery love a bit more in public.  We can show that recovery is possible and let people see what it looks like.

Public awareness is often drawn to the addiction part of our problems and frequently gets stuck there. So it’s great to know that not only are people all over Scotland going to be introduced to the lived experience of recovery from addiction, many for the first time, but also people all over the world are doing exactly the same. Scotland is joining a growing global community of recovery activists.

So if you are in Idaho, USA on the 3rd September this year you can join in a recovery rally there. If you are in North Carolina or Colorado Springs in the USA, Halton in the UK or Dublin in Ireland on 10th September you can take part in recovery walks.

On Friday 16th September, 10 prisons in Scotland will be proudly showing that recovery really does come from within. They each plan to hold a recovery walk so that prisoners in Scotland can join us in making recovery visible in Scotland.  The prisons will be following the example of HMP Perth, now on their 3rd annual recovery walk. Edinburgh, Cornton Vale, Greenock, Grampian, Polmont, Glenochil, Castle Huntly , Low Moss prisons will be walking a recovery mile inside and Inverness will be having a recovery village as well!  Each one of those prisons has made a flag to be flown on their behalf on Saturday 17th at the Recovery Walk Scotland.

On 17th September St Louis In Missouri will be rallying for recovery at exactly the same time as RECOVERY WALK SCOTLAND 2016 assembles at the Kelpies in Falkirk at 11am.

On 21st in St Clairsville in Ohio, another crowd of people in recovery will be rallying USA style. But on 24th September we have global big day with a Recovery Walk taking place in Capetown, South Africa, Port Arthur, San Angelo and South Paris in Texas USA.

And the global recovery-walking month 2016 ends with Sydney in Australia on Sunday 25th September.

So lets make this a month of making Scottish recovery visible in Scotland and to the rest of the world. Say hello on Facebook or Twitter to any of the walks - send your tartan recovery love round the world. Share the love, make friends, we are really good at that!
